David was briefly asked during the interval of the play at the National Theatre by a reporter for the Today programme what he thought of the play and he replied "It's a fantastic piece. Billie is, of course, magnificent."
The reporter, Zoe Conway, then said that the director of the play, Nicholas Hytner, had described it as 'a grotesque distortion of reality' and asked David what he made of it. David replied "I think the reality, as we've learnt from some of the stuff that's come out in the Old Bailey is pretty grotesque to start with, isn't it? So I think it's interesting, to see that reflected in a slightly heightened form, but then at other times you wonder how heightened it really is with some of the truths that were uncovered."
